A Small Bedside Cot That Attaches to Your Adult Bed
A crib for bed allows you to keep your baby close during the night without needing to get up. The breathable fabric means you can easily see your baby and they're incredibly easy to lower for those sleepy 3am feeds.
They can also be used as a moses basket too.
What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also called a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small infant cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep in a safe environment with you. This is a safe form of co-sleeping and does not increase the risk of SIDS like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with your new baby.
These cots have a side which can be lowered to allow you to reach your baby easily in the nighttime to comfort them and feed them. This is especially useful for mums recovering from a c-section. Some are also foldable or portable, so you can take them on your travels and use them as a temporary sleeping option for babies who aren't quite ready to move to a larger cot.
Look for a crib with a breathable mattress, and a protective cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You may also want to buy baby-safe accessories such as an infant blanket or a teether.
If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you turn them into a cot, or a toddler bed when the time comes. This is a great option for extending their life and making the transition easier. Some even have a detachable top section that converts into an infant bed, and some can be used on either a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is an excellent choice for families who plan to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms in the evening. You should also think about how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can squeeze the crib comfortably. A lot of cribs have a riser which can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib manufactured by the English brand Joie is a wonderful addition to their range of high-quality baby products. Designed to aid bedside crib and cot in bonding with their children while sleeping together, without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper has features that make bonding between parents and babies safe, easy and fun.
One of the most important features is a soft rocking motion that can be activated with the push of an button. This gentle rhythm can help soothe your baby into sleep without disturbing their natural sleeping patterns. This is ideal for toddlers and older babies who struggle to settle and can also help with digestive issues like reflux and colic.
The crib can be locked in place once the rocking is finished to stop it from moving. It can be secured to the bed's side using clips and straps. This makes it stable and secure allowing you to get a good night's rest without worrying about your baby rolling off into the middle of the room. The cocoon's rounded shape has soft padding on the sides and double mesh windows at both ends. This allows airflow while ensuring your baby's safety.
The mattress included is soft and comfortable and comes with an easily removable cover. The crib is easy to assemble and disassemble with a lightweight aluminium frame that makes it very mobile. The four lockable wheels are covered in rubber to ensure the crib doesn't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. The crib is easy to clean with the wipeable woven fabric and can be easily packed in a bag for the duration of your stay.
The TuttiBambini Air
Created to be a safe next-to-me crib from birth to six months old, this premium model features rocking bars and castors that allow for easy mobility. The airflow mattresses are deluxe and provide an ideal sleeping surface while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are also 6 different height settings as well as an incline option that can help with congestion and reflux.
Contrary to some cribs that are placed on the bed which can be a nightmare to clean due to their endless stream of dribble and snot, the Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir comes with a wipe-clean liner and fabric that can be removed for machine-washing. It also has a top bar which can be easily adjusted to accommodate feedings at night without the need to juggle zips.
Anna discovered that the CoZee could be a safe, comfortable place to sleep for her infant. It was a pleasure to not move like other models so she didn't wake up at night while trying to soothe her child during feedings. She also loved that the sides of the chair was lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner in order to lift the child out to feed her at night.
The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a stylish addition to any bedroom. It's more of a designer piece than some of the other cribs we've tested, and can appear rather utilitarian. It's also light at just 11kg. It also comes with a carry-on case that allows you to take it on holiday or when you are moving home. The only extras you require are a waterproof cover and a safety strap for co-sleeping. There are step-bystep instructions and illustrations to assist you in putting it together when you first open the box, making it a single-person job should you need to.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet that can be placed at the bedside that allows parents to feel more connected to their child while they sleep. It adjusts upwards and downwards and can be moved through three slide positions to be placed next to the bed of the parent or in the corner of the room, so that the baby is always close at hand. The breathable mesh siding allows air to flow through and lets you glance at your baby. You can also store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket under.
The Iora is a bedside crib that is smaller and can fold flat. It also comes with a travel case to allow it to be carried anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room, and believed it was a great size for a bedside cot that was not too big or too small. The large storage basket is ideal to store bedding and nappies.
This is a great option for parents who want to co-sleep but don't wish to share their beds or whose partners may be prone to mobility issues, such as arthritis or back issues. Our mom testers are thrilled with the convenience of being able to access their baby in the Iora, and that it has an optional reflux incline to aid in reducing gas.

Our mums also love the fact that it meets NICE guidelines which state that you should place the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are easily available. It isn't as light as other cribs that are smaller however, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around with, think about one of the other options in our list.
